Poquetanuck Cove Preserve

Overall, it was a beautiful and mostly easy trail that was in the woods with some areas next to the water. It took about an hour to hike.

The parking lot is very tiny and there are no signs going northbound on Avery Hill Road. There is a faded sign that is visible to vehicles coming southbound. The entrance to the trail is very clear.

The colorful leaves were beautiful! Fallen leaves covered the path, but the trail was still visible. There are also markings on the trees to direct your way. Near the beginning, we crossed a small creek. Although the trail is a loop (see website above for a map), the path to the right at the fork (which may not be obvious) is a bit more challenging. The path is narrow with forest to one side and a small hill that drops into the water on the other. If you go to the left of the fork, once you get to the water, you can turn around to return on the same path or go around the narrow path to complete the loop.

Although this trail is not at the top of my list, I’d hike it again.

Go back in time to when Native Americans camped along the shores and bald eagles soared overhead.
