What a fun trip! We booked the early morning trip, so when we arrived it was still dark and everything was closed. It was also a little chilly, so I recommend wearing layers. When you get there, walk down the pier to the boat called Otter. We didn’t realize that until a little while after arriving. Don’t forget your cooler, drinks, and snacks. Make sure the cooler will be empty for your fish, though!
The captain and mate were super friendly. We rode out near Fisher Island. The sunset was majestic! Once we got to the fishing spot, the mate explained to us what to do. He also helped us catch the fish with the net after we reeled it in. The striped bass needed to be between certain lengths due to overfishing. We were also only able to keep one per person. We were able to keep all the bluefish, which we caught a decent amount of. We fished in a couple of different spots. Later in our booked time, we went to an area to try to catch different types of fish. My husband caught a black sea bass, which we also got to keep. You’ll most likely also go to an area to try to catch super big striped bass, but we requested to stay in the area where we could catch fish that we could keep.
On our way back, the mate filleted our fish for us. That is offered as an option at no additional cost. That was fun to watch the seagulls dive for the tossed parts.
Overall, it was an amazing time and I highly recommend this trip!
20 And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds[g] fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21 So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
