A friend said these cider donuts are the best in the area. They opened on September 1 and I saw on Facebook that they continuously ran out of the cider donuts, so we arrived shortly after they opened. The parking lot was already full, so we parked on the street. The line going out the door of the main building. Apparently, it has been even crazier pre-COVID. The line moved fairly quickly, though, since they had around 4 cashiers open. There are baked goods and various other products such as salsa, butters, syrup, etc, that bordered the line to the cashier. You order the cider and donuts at the register. To purchase the hard ciders you need to go to the cellar of the cider mill behind the main building.
We decided to wait around for the cellar to open. There were a few vendors around the grounds. A load of apples was being emptied into the mill. When the truck was almost empty, the mill started the process. There are a few doors in which you can watch.
There was also a free hard cider tasting. Each person gets a choice of 4 ciders to try. Unfortunately, they were running behind and were a bit frazzled and unorganized when we showed up, so the cups were a little mixed up and it was hard to tell what we were sampling at times. They were all pretty good, though.
The cider donuts were delicious, but I was surprised that they weren’t warm. The regular cider, was so very good! You can smell the aroma of the fresh apples with each sip.
Overall, I may return for the donuts, but I definitely want to return to watch the rest of the cider making process and for more cider.
The oldest steam powered cider mill in the United States.
